HOURS AND DAYS OF WORK

 School Year

 4 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, 8 hours per day, Friday through Sunday, weekly total not to exceed 32 hours.  Work must be performed between the hours of 5 am and 10 pm preceding school days, and between 5 am and 12:30 am preceding non-school days.  Minors enrolled in Work Experience Education may work up to 8 hours per day, 6 days per week, between the hours of 5 am and 12:30 am.  Work Experience Education enrollment must be through the Work Experience Education teacher, Mr. Koch in room 110.

 Vacation (Non-School) Periods

 8 hours per day, 48 total hours per week.  Work must be performed between the hours of 5 am and 12:30 am. 

TYPES OF EMPLOYMENT

 The following job types are prohibited for any person less than 18 years of age:

 v     With or in the proximity of any dangerous moving machinery (this includes power-driven wood-working machines, metal shearing or punching machines, and meat slicing or dough mixing machinery)

v     Driving a motor vehicle on public streets (CVC 12515)

v     Performing any construction work (NOTE:  Minors 16 years of age and older may be employed as tenders and/or clean-up persons on construction sites)

v     Serving alcoholic beverages

 Work permits are required for all minors under the age 18 years who have not graduated from high school or passed the California High School Proficiency Exam.  Minors must be enrolled in a comprehensive high school or approved alternative education program in order for work permits to be issued.

 NOTE:  Passing the GED out of state does not provide an acceptable exemption from California compulsory attendance laws or from California work permit regulations.
